Spent Grain Muffins

Many all-grain brewers are frustrated with what to do with all of the spent grain leftover from making beer. Yes, we can put it in compost, but 10-15 pounds is a lot every few weeks! So today, we are sharing another way to use up those spent grains.

We have shared Biertreberbrot (a traditional spent grain bread recipe) before, but today we have spent grain muffins.

What you'll need is;

  • 1 cup spent grain (wet)
  • 2.5 cups of flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or oil
  • 2/3 cup of sugar
  • 3/4 tsp of baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups of milk (we used kefir)

Mix all of the dry ingredients. Mix all of the wet ingredients. Combine both, pour 1/3 cup into each portion of a muffin tin (makes about 15 muffins). Bake for 20 minutes at 357°F. Enjoy with butter!

This recipe doubles and triples very well, so you can use up even more of your grain.
